The duster’s story begins in the late 18th century when they were made of rough-hewn canvas. Cowboys wore them to protect their clothes as they rode . They also kept people’s clothes free from dirt and dust when automobiles first came along. In the 1920s, the practical duster got a makeover
as a woman’s loose, lightweight full-length coat without buttons, of a style originally worn when travelling in an open car.
